Bad News

Hey everyone,

I’ve got some bittersweet news to share with you all today. Recently, my fan made game Lego Fallout was taken down due to copyright concerns. As someone who has poured countless hours into creating these projects out of love for the games and their communities, this was a tough pill to swallow.

It’s always been my dream to bring these beloved universes to life in a unique way, and I’ve worked hard to keep these projects free and transparent about their fan made, non commercial nature. Unfortunately, despite my best efforts to honor the original creators, these things can happen.

Now, I can’t help but feel worried about the future of my Lego Halo project. Seeing how much you all enjoyed Lego Fallout and how excited you’ve been for Lego Halo has meant the world to me. I want to reassure you that I’m doing everything I can to navigate this situation while continuing to create.

These projects are a celebration of the games that inspired us, but I also want to respect the boundaries set by the creators and copyright holders. Your support means everything to me, whether it’s through your kind words, sharing my work, or just enjoying these little passion projects I’ve been lucky enough to bring to life.

No matter what happens, I’ll continue finding ways to share creativity and fun with you all. Thank you for sticking with me through the ups and downs I wouldn’t be here without this amazing community. Let’s hope for the best, and I’ll keep you updated on any developments.

Thanks!
ThrillDaWill

can you try and not label things with Lego, and instead, something like Leggo or Bricko, and say Fellout or Helo?  Seems that usually works for others,,, ‘usually’

I think the real issue is that the IP license holders aren't seeing the potential that your projects PoC. The popularity of both Fallout and Halo should appeal, tremendously, to Lego; additionally, MS should see the branching out into the "Lego" space as a positive move re-invigorating their IPs.

Either way, keep up the good work and eventually, if the stars align correctly, you'll at least land a job you enjoy. Hopefully your work will shoe-horn some heads out at MS and Lego as they are clearly sleeping at the wheel right now.

Stick to your guns and keep moving forward!

That's too bad. I hate it when lawyer trolls go after the fans. It's not like you are monetarily profiting from these cool projects of yours. Of course maybe the silver lining is that this is ground work to make sure there are no conflicts with the "official" lego fallout game. One can hope.

I’m pretty sure that if you make Valhalla work in 2025, Major Nelson shows up in a warthog, pulls down his shades, and presents you with the legal paperwork to own the halo franchise.

It’s a trap. Don’t try talking to him, it’ll just encourage him. Simply pull the curtains shut, and he’ll tire himself out before leaving on his own.

Todd’s a bit different though. See, I’m betting you didn’t have the pentacle, did you?

With Todd, you gotta hang a pentacle of 5 different copies of Skyrim,  released upon five different consoles, all 5 from wildly different years, with each one vaguely appointing itself as the game of the year.

Awwh dang ;o; Is there a way you could tweak any distinctively Lego-esque assets to be a lil more original in design for a re-release, or are you content with calling it quits on that project? That sounds extraordinarily demoralizing and I'm sorry to hear that your hard work wasn't appreciated by Lego :/

It looks like most of your work on here is crucially linked to very recognizable IP so.. I mean at the risk of sounding like a d-bag, this was kinda bound to happen eventually without some protective measures beyond stressing non-commercial intentions. I mean, even ignoring the clear minifig designs you're directly using the Lego logo right up front and everything!

For real, I wish you the best of luck sorting this out however you see fit, and expressing these awesome creative instincts without further interference <3 Thank you for doin' what you do, you're very talented! <3

Yes, it was definitely bound to happen. It’s just more gut-wrenching to know there are people out there profiting from this IP, making thousands of dollars off cheap knockoffs and other shady merchandise. Meanwhile, they choose to go after creators who genuinely love the work and are inspired to create for passion rather than profit. I don’t earn a dime from my projects—this is something I do entirely in my free time while holding down a full-time job. Wanting to make something based on an IP shouldn’t mean I get blacklisted from the internet. And the worst part is that this is just a bot or script scraping the internet and sending out blanket messages with no regard for the creators. I’m sure that if an actual person reviewed the claim, they would be supportive.

Gosh yeah I totally agree >w< I truly wish fan projects were legally protected, especially free ones that aren't just lazy asset flips or AI-em-ups </3
